Notes on my friendship with Peggy
Peggy and I first met at 550 Cottonwood on the border of Coquitlam close to Burnaby. It was September 1972 and Dave, my partner, Phillipa my daughter who was then 5 years old had just travelled, with the contents of our two bedroom apartment in a u-haul trailer pulled by a pale yellow Pontiac Parisienne convertible.
Peggy was one of the first women we met after moving in and the only one with whom I am still in regular contact. It is a testament to Peggy’s stalwart character that she kept in contact with me even when I was not that great at reciprocating. I’m much better at keeping in touch now than I used to be and I am so glad that we have remained friends.
We only lived at 550 Cottonwood for a short while before buying a little old house on S. Howard Avenue in Burnaby, but a connection had been forged and Peggy and I are now forever friends.
We spent time with each other when our kids were small. I remember one particular occasion being at the Coquitlam house in the summer and Matthew and Barrie playing in a paddling pool.
My husband Jack and I purchased property on Mayne in the early 80’s and have spent most of the time there since being retired in 2006
Peggy had a great connection with Mayne Island, having two sets of friends there and we spent many happy times on Mayne Island since the 80’s
